We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.

Taking up sewing recently has been such a delightful adventure for me. What started as simple curiosity quickly turned into one of my main hobbies. You wouldn’t believe how much fabric I go through every month!

To keep my stock replenished, I often visit a couple of fabric shops in the city. And I don’t settle for just any shop because I want to make sure that I get the finest for my creations.

To help fellow sewing enthusiasts, I’ve put together a list of the best fabric shops in Toronto.

How much do fabrics cost in Toronto?

The price of fabrics in Toronto can vary depending on the type and quality of the material.

Basic materials, like cotton and linen, usually cost $10 per yard. Meanwhile, higher-end materials like silk and wool cost $35 per yard.

How We Chose

Fabric quality – We evaluated whether these shops sell high-quality fabrics based on where they source their products, their return policies, and opinions we’ve gathered from their clients.
Variety – We prefer fabric shops that offer a wide range of fabrics, including cotton, linen, silk, and wool.
Accessibility – We looked at whether these shops are near major roads and public transit stations. We also considered whether they’re open on most days of the week.
Customer service – We also evaluated whether their staff members always treat their clients kindly and respectfully. We assessed whether they respond to enquiries quickly.
Price fairness – We checked whether their prices are fair considering the quality of their fabrics, accessibility, return policies, delivery times, and product packages offered.

One of the best local fabric shops I can recommend is Ontario Fashion Textiles, which has been operating since 1959. They offer a broad selection of fabrics that are sourced from Italy, France, and the UK.

Some examples of fabrics they sell are wool, silk, and linen. They even sell over 10,000 decorator fabrics that are designed to spice up your home decor, like upholstery and bedding.

But the biggest reason why I chose them is their Trade Program. Launched for apparel designers, architects, and interior designers, this program gives its members exclusive discounts and priority access to many of Ontario Fashion Textiles’ products.

However, I find it disappointing that they don’t allow customers to purchase directly from their website. You’ll need to visit their store in person to make your purchases.

Pros

  • Imports high-quality European fabrics
  • Offers over 10,000 decorator fabrics
  • Has a trade program

Cons

  • No online store and delivery service

Huge selection of fabrics

“Amazing experience from concept to final product! We had old dining room chairs that John and team were able to fully rebuild, upholster and restore! Huge selection of fabrics and strong commitment to customer service – all in a timely manner!

Highly recommend!!”

A store I regularly visit to restock my fabric supply is Fabricland. Their history dates back to 1968, and they now operate seven locations across the GTA.

When it comes to fabrics, they offer both basic broadcloth and specialty fabrics like bridal and partywear. I particularly like their selection of cottons and blends, which I often use for my sewing projects.

Speaking of sewing projects, I also appreciate that they offer over 150 DIY craft projects. They’re great for those who are looking for new ideas or are still new to sewing.

Additionally, they offer sewing classes to both beginners and advanced sewists. I’ve taken a few classes myself and enjoyed them a lot!

However, my biggest issue with Fabricland is their refund policy. They only accept returns within seven days for store purchases, and they have a “no refunds” policy for online purchases.

Pros

  • 7 locations in the GTA
  • Offers DIY craft projects
  • Has sewing classes

Cons

  • No refunds for online purchases
  • Some rude staff

If you like sewing, this is a perfect place for you!

Another store I frequently visit, especially when my budget is tight, is Fabric Fabric. This York-based shop sells a wide range of fabrics made by companies like Camelot Fabrics, Benartex, Santee, and more.

I like their fabric scrap bags. These are filled with an assortment of cheap, pre-cut fabrics, making them a good option for my small projects or whenever I want to practice my sewing techniques.

Another reason why I’m one of their regular customers is their free delivery on orders over $100. Plus, they have a 30-day return window if the fabric you received isn’t to your liking.

However, one thing that puzzles me is their $2.50 charge for their swatches. That seems a bit pricey for what are essentially fabric samples.

Pros

  • Sources their fabrics from renowned brands
  • Sells cheap fabric scrap bags
  • Free delivery on orders over $100
  • 30-day return policy

Cons

  • Charges $2.50 for fabric swatches
  • Some fabrics aren’t stocked regularly

This is the best fabric warehouse in town!

They have an amazing selection of fabrics

“I have ordered from Fabric Fabric many times for my small business Celeste Naturals. They have an amazing selection of fabrics including satin & beautiful african prints which are hard to find. The staff/owners are very pleasant to do business with. I highly recommend!”

Fabric Spark is a fabric shop that sells a wide range of products, from designer prints to cotton fabrics. They’re a good choice for sewing enthusiasts, as they have a subscription model that gives subscribers a set of 12 curated bundle every month for $56.95.

Their PDF pattern printing service is another good feature. For $7, you can have your patterns printed in AO size, eliminating the hassle of taping together multiple pages.

It’s also worth mentioning that they offer a variety of workshops that cover sewing, quilting, and more. These classes can be very useful if you’re a beginner looking to enhance your sewing skills.

They do not offer delivery. They only offer pick-up, so you’ll need to visit their store to collect your orders.

Pros

  • Has a subscription model
  • Offers PDF pattern printing
  • Has sewing and quilting workshops

Cons

  • Location a bit far from Toronto’s western suburbs

The prettiest fabrics and the nicest patterns!

“Oh my gosh the prettiest fabrics and the nicest patterns! And a very friendly and knowledgeable staff who don’t seem to mind someone who mostly just browses and buys thread. Love this place!”

-Rebecca Green, Google Reviews

Fabric Spark is definitely one of my favourites!

“I’m new to quilting so I’ve been visiting all the fabric stores in Toronto and I love them all for different reasons, but Fabric Spark is definitely one of my favourites! They have the biggest, most versatile collection of quilting fabrics and I always see about 30 things I want every time I stop by. The people who work here are also so friendly and helpful! They always ask what I’m working on, which I think is a quilter’s favourite question to receive.”

Another place I can recommend is G.K. Fashion Fabrics. They’ve won me over with the affordability of their products.

Here, you can buy fabrics like polyester, cotton, canvas, and denim. They offer all their fabrics at wholesale prices with no minimum requirement, making it convenient to buy in bulk.

Plus, if your order totals over $150, you get free shipping!

What’s also nice about them is their membership program. As a member, you get up to a 20% discount on all fabrics and priority access to new products. While the membership costs $399 for the first year and $199 for each subsequent year, I can say it’s worth it if you’re a frequent buyer like me.

However, due to the high demand for their products, they can sell out quickly. So, you might find some fabrics out of stock from time to time.

Pros

  • Offers wholesale pricing with no minimum requirement
  • Free shipping for orders over $150
  • Has a membership program

Cons

  • Products tend to sell out quickly
  • Sometimes misses enquiries

The fabric is always great quality!

“I have ordered from GK Fashion Fabrics several times. The fabric is always great quality! They have a large selection of so many types of fabric. There are also numerous color choices in most of the fabrics. Customer service has been top notch – answering any questions I might have before placing an order. I also love that they include fabric samples/swatches with each order. Gives a good idea of other fabrics available, weight, textures, and colors.”

-Maureen O, Google Reviews

The fabric selection is amazing and the prices are great

“I was blown away by my experience at GK fashion fabrics. The fabric selection is amazing and the prices are great.

I was also amazed by the store itself. It is extremely clean, well lit, organized, and truly unlike any fabric store I’ve been in. The customer service was also exceptional. Everyone was so helpful, patient and kind. They went over and above to ensure I was satisfied with my fabric. I am so happy to have found them and can’t wait to make this my go-to fabric store.”
