The Best Personal Trainers in Toronto Who Make Fitness Less Daunting!

We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.

This year, I’ve finally made a commitment to get in shape, which is why I’ve decided to work with a personal trainer.

Choosing to work with a personal trainer was an easy decision. They can create customized workout plans, correct my form, and push me to reach my goals. Plus, having someone to cheer me on makes my progress even more rewarding.

You can start your fitness journey too with the help of these top personal trainers in Toronto!

How much would it cost to hire a personal trainer in Toronto?

Generally, you can expect to pay around $80 per hour for a personal trainer in Toronto.

However, this price can vary depending on the trainer’s experience, credentials, and the type of training you choose.

How We Chose

Qualifications and experience – We prefer personal trainers with more than three years of experience and are certified by reputable organisations like the Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology (CSEP).
Specialisations – We also picked those that specialise in a wide range of fitness improvement plans, such as weight loss, strength training, and sports conditioning.
Availability – We looked at whether their fitness studios are near major roads and public transit stations, and if they provide mobile training sessions to most suburbs in Toronto. We also checked whether they’re open on most days of the week.
Professionalism – We evaluated whether these personal trainers are punctual and treat clients fairly. We also considered whether they respond to enquiries quickly.
Price fairness – We assessed whether their prices are fair based on their experience, credentials, specialisations, availability, additional services, and package deals offered.

First Class Personal Training is the one I chose to help me with my fitness journey. They were founded in 2005 by Gera Pekar, a personal trainer who’s also a nutrition counsellor and a post-rehabilitation specialist.

The main reason I chose them is their in-home personal training option. This allows me to complete my exercise routines without the hassle of driving to a gym. Plus, I don’t have to worry about purchasing any exercise equipment since my training brings everything needed for our sessions.

I also appreciate the diverse range of training programs they offer, including post-rehabilitation, youth training, and senior training. They even have a Multiple Sclerosis (MS) program that’s designed to improve strength, balance, and flexibility for individuals with MS.

However, one issue I have is their prices. Their cost can be quite steep; you can be charged up to $150 per hour.

Pros

  • 20 years of experience
  • Can do in-home personal training
  • Will bring exercise equipment to your address
  • Offer senior training
  • Has Multiple Sclerosis training programs
  • Offers virtual personal training

Cons

  • Above-average prices
  • Doesn’t have a proper fitness studio

They are just excellent when it comes to motivation

“My entire family trains with FCPT and after a year of thinking about joining First Class Personal Training’s program, I finally decided it was time. In just a short couple of months my energy level has significantly increased, my entire body is toning and my endurance is at a whole new level. First Class Personal Training takes a serious and professional approach and they are just excellent when it comes to motivation.”

The Body Engineers is a fitness studio started in 2018 by John Murphy. A fitness trainer himself, John has more than a decade of experience in the industry and is well-versed when it comes to biomechanics and resistance training.

One of the standout features of this studio is their Muscle Activation Techniques program, a hands-on neuromuscular therapy that identifies and corrects muscle inhibition. Alongside this, they also provide standard training plans to accomplish fitness goals like losing weight or gaining muscle.

Another convenient feature is their mobile app, available on both App Store and Play Store. It lets you book appointments quickly and keep track of points earned in their rewards program. These points can be exchanged for free sessions and souvenirs.

However, it should be noted that their services are quite expensive. I recommend exploring other options first if your budget is a bit tight.

  • Offers Muscle Activation Techniques programs
  • Has a mobile app for bookings

Founded in 2006, Nielsen Fitness offers personalised fitness programs through in-home, studio, and virtual training options. It was founded by Poul Nielsen, a personal trainer who also teaches Health Sciences at George Brown College.

One of the best things about this studio is their Vigor+Vitality Training program, which uses special training methods to improve your balance and mobility. They also offer the Plus Stretch program, which focuses on various stretching techniques to improve flexibility and prevent injuries.

It’s also good that they have a customer satisfaction guarantee. If you don’t see noticeable results after committing to their programs, they’ll give you a full refund.

I feel like I am making strides towards becoming stronger and fitter

“My experience with Nielsen Fitness has been fantastic. I have been working with Poul Nielsen in the Collingwood studio for about 4 months and have enjoyed every session. I love that the studio is small and personal, and Poul puts together a new, challenging program for me each week that is based on my goals and my abilities. I always come away from the session tired, but invigorated, and I feel like I am making strides towards becoming stronger and fitter each week. I am so happy to be a Nielsen Fitness client!”

My experience with Nielsen Fitness was truly excellent

“My experience with Nielsen Fitness was truly excellent. Jessica worked with me to achieve my goals, striking the perfect balance between motivating me to try new challenges and working within my limits. I ended up going much farther than I thought I could — safely and enjoyably. I live in a remote area, and being able to work with a personal trainer online was amazing. Many thanks to Nielsen and especially to Jessica!”

With eight locations in the GTA, Innovative Fitness is an easily accessible fitness studio you can work with for your fitness goals. It was founded in 1995 and has a team of experienced personal trainers, like Walter, who has more than 12 years of experience.

What caught my eye is their use of the Functional Movement Screen assessment tool to identify any imbalances or weaknesses in your movement patterns. The data is used by their trainers to create a wellness program tailored to your needs.

I also appreciate their fitness travel program, which combines physical challenges with the chance to explore destinations like Peru and Hawaii. It can be a good way to stay fit while experiencing new cultures.

However, it’s disappointing that their final prices sometimes differ from the initial quotes provided. They should be more upfront about the various fees they charge their clients.

Pros

  • Almost 30 years of experience
  • 8 locations in the GTA
  • Uses the Functional Movement Screen assessment tool
  • Offers fitness travel programs
  • Offers free consultations

Cons
